Lizards
Ouroborus cataphractus - CITES II
  • Armadillo Girdled Lizard
  • Armadillo Spiny-tailed Lizard
  • Report for Ouroborus cataphractus
The armadillo girdled lizard can be a light brown to dark brown in coloration. The underbelly is yellow with a
blackish pattern, especially under the chin. Its size can range from 7.5 to 9 cm.
The armadillo girdled lizard is diurnal. It hides in rock cracks and crevices. It lives in social groups of up to 30 to
60 individuals of all ages, but usually fewer.
The armadillo girdled lizard possesses an uncommon antipredator adaptation, in which it rolls into a ball and
takes its tail in its mouth when frightened. In this shape, it is protected from predators by the thick, squarish
scales along its back and the spines on its tail.
    Smaug giganteus - CITES II
  • Sungazer lizard
  • giant girdled lizard
  • giant dragon lizard
  • Report for Smaug giganteus
The sungazer is a heavily armoured species, with a typical snout–to-vent length of 15–18 cm, and is easily
distinguishable from other cordylids by the elongated pair of occipital spines and the enlarged keeled caudal
    spines.
Unlike most other rupicolous (living among rocks) members of the Cordylidae, sungazers live in self-excavated
burrows (typically 0.4 m and 1.8 m) in the silty soil of the Themeda grassland in South Africa. They are
insectivores, but occasionally eat small vertebrates. These colonial, ovoviviparous lizards reproduce every 2–3
years, and only produce one or two offspring per breeding cycle. They are long-lived, and captives have been
recorded surpassing 20 years of age.
    Tortoise
    Chersobius Signatus- CITES II
  • speckled tortoise
  • speckled padloper
  • speckled Cape tortoise
  • Report for Chersobius signatus
The males of C. signatus measure 6–8 cm in straight carapace length, while the larger females measure up to
almost 10 cm ; they weigh about 95–165g. This species has a flattened shell with slightly serrated edges.
Speckled padlopers are most active in the early morning. Living among the rocky outcrops, they feed on small
succulents that grow between the rocks and are small enough to reach. After mating, the female makes a nest
of several eggs in damp soil between the rocks. The hatchlings are under 7 grams and 30 mm long, and emerge
after 100 to 120 days. The average mature female speckled tortoise produces about ≤ 5 eggs per year.
